DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF DISEASES

The Women's Health and Obstetrics Department of Tekden Hospital, with its expert healthcare team and advanced technological equipment capacity, addresses women's health comprehensively and provides services in the field of childbirth, including planning, support, and treatment. The unit offers regular gynecological examinations, age-specific screenings and interventions, routine check-ups for early diagnosis in high-risk groups, and a range of services in various areas related to women's health and childbirth. Additionally, it assists in childbirth planning, pregnancy monitoring, management of high-risk pregnancies, planning for a healthy delivery, and postpartum care, managing the entire process professionally.

What Are Common Women's Health Issues?

Some common women's health issues include:

  1. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Such as genital herpes, chlamydia, syphilis, trichomoniasis, hepatitis B, HIV/AIDS, and human papillomavirus (HPV). These infections may present with various symptoms, but a common sign is dark-colored, thick, and often foul-smelling vaginal discharge. Complaints like pain or bleeding during sexual intercourse, abdominal pain and tenderness, frequent urination, burning during urination, and irregular menstrual bleeding may indicate reproductive system infections.
  2. Gynecological Cancer Diseases: Women are at risk for various gynecological cancers, including cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, and vulvar cancer. Regular cancer screenings, preventive vaccinations for some diseases, and early diagnosis and treatment are crucial. The department provides comprehensive health services, including surgical interventions, diagnostic hysteroscopy, cervical cancer screening, HPV-positive patient monitoring, and close follow-up.

How Is Family Planning and Monitoring Done?

The Women's Health and Obstetrics Department of our hospital provides professional support services for expectant mothers from the planning stage of pregnancy to postpartum care. For women with diagnoses that increase the risk of miscarriage, such as coagulation disorders, a history of past genital infections, and various gynecological disorders, a high-risk pregnancy follow-up and close monitoring plan are implemented.

ENDOMETRIAL CANCER

Endometrial (uterine) cancer is the most common cancer in women. Most of these cancers occur after menopause, and the most significant symptom is postmenopausal bleeding. These cancers have a good prognosis if detected early and treated. Any postmenopausal woman with bleeding should consult a gynecologist without waiting for the bleeding to increase or stop and undergo the necessary tests.

CERVICAL CANCER

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women. Worldwide, 500,000 new cases of cervical cancer are reported each year. Early detection and treatment can allow patients with cancer precursor lesions or early-stage cancer to continue their lives healthily. Easy-to-perform smear and HPV tests, which can also be performed at health ministry-affiliated cancer screening centers (KETEM), enable early diagnosis. Co-testing (HPV+smear) every five years or smear testing every three years is essential for early detection. In case of pathological conditions in these tests, it is necessary to consult a gynecologist specializing in gynecologic oncology.

OVARIAN CANCER

Ovarian cancer is one of the cancers that cause significant loss of life in women. There is no screening method for these cancers, but annual check-ups with a gynecologist are necessary for early diagnosis and treatment. If there are conditions such as swelling in the abdomen, indigestion, and tension in the abdomen, a doctor should be consulted immediately. The routinely requested CA-125 value is not a screening method. A positive result is not a definite sign of cancer, and this marker should be used for follow-up in sick individuals rather than screening.

VULVAR CANCER

Vulvar cancers are rare among women's cancers. Especially in older ages, these cancers, which have started to be seen in younger ages due to the widespread of the HPV virus, should be consulted with a gynecologist if there is persistent itching or raised bleeding sores in the vulvar region (the hairy area next to the entrance of the vagina). Advanced tests should be performed. Tumors caught early have a chance of successful treatment.
