Dr. Aykota was born in 1985 and completed his high school education in his hometown of Denizli. He began his professional career after graduating from the Trakya University Faculty of Medicine in 2009. After completing his mandatory service in the Dursunbey district of Balıkesir, Dr. Aykota started his specialization in the General Surgery Department at Pamukkale University in 2010.
During his assistantship, he developed a keen interest in "Advanced Laparoscopic" surgeries, leading him to gain experience in obesity surgery alongside Prof. Dr. Koray Tekin, one of the leading figures in the field in Turkey. In 2013, while still a surgical assistant, he participated in the "World Obesity Congress (IFSO)" held in Istanbul, where he assisted Prof. Jacques Himpens in surgery, further fueling his passion for the field.
In 2014, during his training and certification in "Robotic Surgery" at the Cleveland Clinic in the United States, he participated in obesity surgeries with Dr. Mitchell Roslin at New York's Lenox Hill Hospital.
In the later years of his assistantship, Dr. Aykota discovered his interest in cancer surgery, particularly in hepatobiliary surgery and pancreatic cancer. He completed his general surgery specialization in 2015.
In 2016, he attended the 21st World Obesity Surgery Congress in Brazil. Between 2015 and 2018, he completed his mandatory service in the Sandıklı district of Afyonkarahisar. Following this, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the General Surgery Department at Pamukkale University. In his first year, he actively participated in the establishment of the Liver Transplant Center and performed the first cadaveric and live donor liver transplant surgeries.
He attended the 23rd World Obesity Surgery Congress in Dubai in 2018 and advanced training organized by Prof. Dr. Catalin Copaescu in Romania in 2020. In the same year, he founded the Obesity Center at Pamukkale University, serving patients from Turkey and around the world.
In April 2022, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor by the Interuniversity Board. In 2022, he attended a revision surgery course organized by Prof. Dr. Jon Kristinsson in Oslo, Norway. In 2023, he participated in a complex revision surgery course organized by Prof. Dr. Bruno Dillemans in Belgium and a 'Fast Track Concept' course in obesity surgery organized by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Diaa Sarhan at Cairo University in Egypt.
Continuing his academic work as an Associate Professor in the General Surgery Department at Pamukkale University, Dr. Aykota has been sharing his experience and expertise with surgical assistants. Since April 2023, he has been providing services to patients in a new area in the private sector.
